Dr Furlong’s specialist expertise and wide experience matter when it comes to providing high-quality, discreet, individualized, and effective treatment to her patients and in removing the psychological barriers that interfere with each patient’s progress so that they can reach their full potential.

A/Prof Yulia Furlong, MD, MSc, MRCPsych, FRANZCP, is a qualified Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist and Associate Processor in Curtin University in WA, holding visiting/adjunct position with enAble Institute. Yulia is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Royal College of Psychiatrists, an accredited member of WA Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and an international member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in London. A/Prof Furlong’s Research Doctorate degree in Psychiatry from University College Cork, Ireland, 2009 focused on the psychiatric co-morbidity of chronic physical illness. A/Prof Furlong is an active researcher with several key original publications in the area of childhood onset neuro-disabilities.

A/Prof Furlong consolidated her extensive knowledge and skills in neuropsychopharmacology and developmental psychopathology through her participation and chair role in CAMHS Medication Safety Committee (2014-2019), as a committee member of CAHS Drug and Therapeutic Committee (2018- present) and in her role as the Chair of WA Psychotropic Medication Expert Group (WAPMG) since 2019. She has been instrumental in influencing WA Health policy regarding ethical and safe use of psychotropic medications, including the development of CAHS paediatric agitation and arousal medication chart and guidelines that represent improved standardised measure in pharmacological management of agitation and arousal.As an expert group, WAPMG provides advice and recommendations relating to psychotropic medicines to support the Statewide Medicines Formulary. 

Yulia is also a member of ADHD Forum and ADHD WA, and had recently joined  WA branch committee of the Australian and New Zealand Royal College of Psychiatrists.

 A/Prof Furlong is practicing as a Consultant Psychiatrist and the Head of Service of CAMHS Crisis Connect in Perth Children’s Hospital and partakes in a sessional private practice where she dedicate majority of time to assessment and treatment of ADHD and co-morbidities across lifespan, including treating adults with ADHD, and manages other neurodevelopment and child mental health conditions.
